Harlan Coben’s new Netflix series might be the biggest surprise of his entire catalogue. With a cast that can genuinely act, a noticeable budget, and a story that doesn’t drag itself out longer than necessary, I Will Find You was actually worth watching.
Recently, Harlan Coben adaptations have ranged from unbearable to merely tolerable. However, Netflix seems to have stepped up its game. With a change of location to major cities and a cast featuring Sam Worthington, Britt Lower, and Milo Ventimiglia, I found myself genuinely entertained throughout the series.
Even though the show reminded me a lot of His & Hers, particularly with its dark and gritty style, it lacked the ability to take itself completely seriously. The two lead detectives delivered performances that felt weak and, at times, unintentionally comedic.
As usual with these storylines, it’s packed with plot twists upon plot twists. While you’re kept guessing until the very end, it also falls victim to casting recognisable actors in minor roles, making certain developments feel a little predictable.
Fortunately, thanks to the short episode runtimes, this is an easy binge for the average viewer. It’s guaranteed to be talked about over the next few weeks and will almost certainly be Netflix’s number-one trending show by the weekend.
Overall, I Will Find You is an entertaining but ultimately forgettable watch. If you’re a fan of mystery thrillers and Harlan Coben’s style of storytelling, there’s still plenty here to enjoy.
