Thirteen years after Scary Movie 5 and with the return of the Wayans brothers, I genuinely thought we were about to get a return to form for the franchise.
And thats what we get, Is that it?
I’ll say it without pulling any punches: this movie was terrible.
I have a pretty dark sense of humour, and I was expecting this film to be far more outrageous than it was. Like i was expecting way more fucked up and offensive jokes Halfway through, I genuinely started wondering whether I’d become more sensitive over the years. Then I realised the problem wasn’t me,it was the jokes. I was offended but not because im woke because it was tame The trailer sold a completely different movie, one that looked willing to push boundaries and take risks. Instead, the humour feels safe, awkward, and surprisingly bland.
I’m not even a huge spoof movie guy to begin with, but the biggest issue is that I was bored. A lot of the comedy feels like it’s desperately trying to recreate what worked in the early 2000s rather than finding a fresh angle of its own.
I’m not expecting a masterpiece, and I’m certainly not expecting a thought provoking plot. It’s a Scary Movie film. What I am expecting is to laugh more than three times across the entire runtime.
After over a decade away and with the Wayans brothers back, this should have felt like an event. Instead, it feels like a franchise chasing its past rather than reminding us why we loved it in the first place.
I stopped doing double bills in the cinema today i went against that and realised why i stopped it
