The Gunn Don’t Jam… occasionally.
Lanterns starts off with a more grounded approach compared to every other product we’ve had so far in this new DC Universe, and I for one am surprised with how gripping and fascinating this pilot episode was.
They go down the detective drama route with all the plot threads we want to pull at, and the way they incorporate the Green Lantern ethos and lore is seamless, especially if you have no prior knowledge of the character, which might be most of the audience considering previous attempts at showcasing the character.
Kyle Chandler is quite intriguing to watch as this rundown hero with enough arrogance to fill a whole small town, contrasting against Aaron Pierre’s more structured personality, the pair are an unlikely duo that I am in desperate need of more of.
It’s a great pilot episode to get you invested in the mystery, the personalities, and just the sheer sense of having another show to be devoted towards. I can’t quite say the last time I felt like I was just counting the days until the next episode with a TV show but Lanterns has got me enamoured.
