Lucky, the brand new series on Apple TV+, is an intense and highly entertaining thriller that follows Anya Taylor-Joy’s character as she’s forced to go on the run.

I was able to watch the first three episodes before writing this review, and while the opening five to ten minutes are a little slow, the series quickly finds its footing. Once Lucky is left abandoned with no money and both the FBI and the mob on her trail, I was completely gripped.

Across the first three episodes, we’ve already seen Lucky narrowly escape multiple close calls, including car crashes, shootouts, and tense encounters where she relies on her intelligence, quick thinking, and disguises to survive. Anya Taylor-Joy is more than capable of carrying the series, delivering a compelling lead performance, while Timothy Olyphant, Annette Bening, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and William Fichtner all make strong additions to the cast. I’m also hoping we get to see more of Drew Starkey as the series progresses.

My only criticism so far is that the story feels a little predictable at times, and the premise is familiar enough that it can feel like you’ve seen something similar before. Even so, Anya Taylor-Joy’s performance has me fully invested, and with each episode ending on a strong cliffhanger, I’m excited to see where the series goes next.
