"Brad Pitt gives an incredible physical and committed performance." - Joe

After 12 years, David Ayer has partnered back up with Brad Pitt and has delivered an emotional, edge of your seat survival thriller that left me in floods of tears come the end of the film.

Brad Pitt stars as James Belmont, a recently retired veteran who alongside his wonderful former service dog Odin, travel to remote Alaska on their small sea plane to escape their shared PTSD.

For most of the film, Pitt is either acting alone or alongside Odin and gives an incredible physical and committed performance. For what is on paper, a pretty conventional survival story, with their sea plane crashing in rural Alaska and 50 miles separates James and Odin from rescue.

Ayers manages to be extremely effective in the film’s execution. With a runtime of 101 minutes, the pacing is quick and married with stunning cinematography of New Zealand, which serves as the Alaskan wilderness, the film keeps you gripped to edge of your seat whilst also sending you through all of your emotions.

There isn’t an overuse of effects used and for the most part you’re following James and Odin through their struggle back to civilisation, believing every step the pair take.

I am a huge fan of Brad Pitt and this performance which showcases his physical and mental capabilities is a joy to watch.

Overall, Heart of the Beast is a gripping thriller from start to finish, you will not be bored for a single second of the runtime eagerly wanting to know what happens to the pair next. Heart of the Beast releases in cinemas on September 23rd and one that is well worth your time and money.
